Below are encounters with superstition, the paranormal, or beings of local legend, as told by county residents.
"Was fixing up the power steering line on a client's truck late one night. Heard a ruckus by the dumpster. Thought it was a possum. Wasn't a possum. Had the face of a man. Ran off before I could grab my gun."

"I was taking a stroll in a park, I ain't sure if it had a name, and I stumbled upon a plant that was really lovely and couldn't help but crouch down and admire the petals. Some hours laters, I began hearing singing as if a siren was nears by. I approach the window to check, which I get it's stupid to do in this county but I had to check to find anyone singing. They're lucky it's angelic. But it began to be annoying when I tried to listen to others songs to get the singing to go away. Still, they're lucky it's angelic."

"My aunt always told me and my siblings not to play in the woods alone, and if we turned our back on the trees, to cross our fingers so the woods walkers would leave us be. She said that when she was a little girl, she was playing in her backyard when one of them came right up and gave her a shiny red apple. When she went home and cut it up, the apple was hollow on the inside and full of worms. Every time she told this story she described the woods walker differently. Sometimes it was a woodland animal like a rabbit or a deer. Other times it was a beautiful woman or even a young boy. Once, she added that for weeks after, an apple would be on her doorstep when she got home from school. Auntie passed away earlier this year. I miss her and her tales every day.

"Late last night, walking home along the bypass, I saw someone—or something—standing motionless just beyond the guardrail. No streetlights, no sound. Just a silhouette that didn’t move or respond, even when I called out. I crossed the road and looked back. It was gone. I’ve taken that route a hundred times. Never seen anything like it."
